A midwife learns from every interaction with mothers and with each birth she attends.  The knowledge of the midwives could never be contained in book or even volumes.  It is a knowledge that continually grows with experience and sharing.  Midwives gather to talk, share and trade information.  Just as they learn from the mothers and babies we learn from each other.  The wisest of midwives also learn from their students.  They take on apprentices to pass on knowledge from hands and the heart while expanding and learning with the next generation.  No longer is this just a community endeavor but a global undertaking.  Technology allows midwifes and students to connect worldwide.  The knowledge deepens and in this worldwide connection.  What was once lost in our history is retained in others.  There is so much to share and learn.   With this growth, midwives see their skills, compassion and intuition being used in all areas of life.  Midwifery is more than just birth.  It is huge and growing.  Women use it to mother, to be a friend, to assist the dying, or to get through trying times.    Midwifery is a knowing inside.  It is in you.  It is bliss to fall into.  A wonder to contemplate and an exquisite way to find more and more of yourself within the world.
